The use of mobile devices during school hours has always been a cause of apprehension for teachers in the past. We cannot however dismiss the widespread adoption of technology in higher education and ultimately, the workforce. Therefore, the educators at Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center are embracing technology as part of the curriculum at the earliest stages of a childís education. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program marries technology with the classroom, providing more effective, meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students that align with the expectations of a modern education.†
As a teacher and advocate of classroom technology, I will be making an effort to increase the use of technology amongst my students. Mathematics is an area where students should be given immediate feedback on their execution of the problems that are taught that day. To help make sure this goal is achieved, I will be utilizing the programs called Poll Everywhere, Quizlet, and Socratic. In short, these programs give students sets of problems to solve with immediate feedback, short videos with explanations of how to solve problems, informal quizzes to test their mastery, and polling capabilities that can be used as a tool for whole class instruction. Not only are these tools engaging for students, but allow me as the teacher to see the classes strengths and weaknesses in order to guide instruction for the following day.†
I encourage you to explore these tools further to understand their value in the classroom. Remember to register your device before !
LTEC†will observe Veteran's Day on Monday, November 10th. The Elementary Center will honor veterans and active military with a tribute beginning at 9:30AM. We ask that any student who has someone close to them who has served or is currently serving in the military, bring a picture with them to the assembly.
